DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man was struck and killed while crossing Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach — just south of a legitimate crosswalk area. The man, Dana Wells Blanton, was thrust into the windshield of the striking Cadillac. He rolled off the vehicle and onto the ground.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Wednesday afternoon shared these details with BocaNewsNow.com about the Saturday death:
Shortly after 12:07 a.m. BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 200 block of North Federal Highway. When deputies arrived to the scene, they located the pedestrian in the roadway. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed, Lau was driving a black 2016 Cadillac CTS traveling southbound on North Federal Highway approaching the intersection of Northeast Second Avenue. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of North Federal Highway and entered the path of the on-coming vehicle.
Detectives say the collision caused the pedestrian to impact the windshield and tumble onto the roadway to a final rest. The Cadillac came to a controlled stop and parked in a nearby parking lot. The driver of the Cadillac remained on scene and cooperated in the investigation.
A crosswalk with pedestrian crossing signals was positioned north of the impact. The investigation continues.
