BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A swimmer getting pulled out to sea by strong current was rescued by a Palm Beach County lifeguard Saturday afternoon. It happened just north of Boca Raton and south of Delray Beach in Highland Beach.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Delray Beach Fire Rescue rushed to the scene in the area of 3301 South Ocean Blvd. after callers said that it appeared two people were drowning. It turned out a swimmer was having a problem fighting the current, and the lifeguard who attempted to help also had a problem fighting the undertow.

By the time rescuers arrived, however, the swimmer and the lifeguard were both on a sandbar. A boat was apparently dispatched to bring both back to shore.

No injuries were ultimately reported. There is a “rip current statement” in effect for most of Palm Beach County through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
