Why does this woman have a dog in the Publix at Jog Road and Lake Ida in Delray Beach? And why is she not holding its leash?

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s a new week but what’s old is what’s new when it comes to selfish, inconsiderate shoppers bringing their dogs into places where they do not belong. Our latest entries for today’s Boca Rudeton competition: a woman who brought her dog in a Publix — where signs clearly say it’s not allowed — and another woman who brought a dog into Aldi, where it’s also prohibited by law.

Our Publix contestant brought this pooch — and actually dropped the leash — at the Publix on Jog Road at Lake Ida in Delray Beach. It’s unclear why she felt she needed the dog, but didn’t need the leash. Not only is she violating Publix policy, she also seems to be violating state and federal law. No dogs in supermarkets. And certainly no dogs not being controlled by a leash.

Dog Aldi Boca Raton Feb 2024
What legitimate service does this dog provide that would make it okay to bring into Aldi in Boca Raton? Our readers want to know. So do we.

And then we have the woman with the dog at Aldi in Boca Raton. We appreciate that shopping at Aldi is like flying coach, but that doesn’t mean that dogs are allowed. In fact, even at Aldi, they’re prohibited under federal and state law — unless it’s a legit service dog. And lying about a service dog is a crime in Florida.

Publix No Pet Signs
Caving to pressure from BocaNewsNow.com, these signs are now in place at Publix nationwide. Dogs are not allowed unless they are trained service dogs. Lying about that is a crime. (BocaNewsNow.com).

The competition is tough, but our winner is the gray-haired Publix shopper who thought it was not just okay to bring her dog into Publix, but also to drop its leash why doing whatever it is she’s doing. It’s not. Congratulations lady in Delray Beach — you’re our Boca Rudeton winner for Monday, February 26, 2024. We don’t give prizes, but if we did, we think it would be the number for the “let’s get a clue society.” We believe they provide free guidance on how to behave in public. And presumably Publix.

We remind our readers that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be rude here! Send your submissions to us using the menu buttons above. 1. WTH is wrong with Publix and Aldi management that they keep allowing people to break the law? This needs to be reported and Publix and Aldi need to be fined. So do the people who continue doing this

    1. You have no clue as to what service the dog performs. In fact such animals are perfect for a wide variety of disabled services. Just the article should be reviewed by the ADA and its attorneys. Stop making your own judgements or assumptions about service animals or disabilities. Clearly you have no clue

      1. These particular tiny dogs do not assist that shopper to walk or shop or see. As “companions” they should be kept home on newspapers in the bathroom if need be. These in no way appear to be trained companion animals.
My brother hires a human being three hours per day to assist me in shopping and going to doctor/dentist/lab/X-ray visits. I am most grateful and fortunate to have this help, which I may not always have.
And my cat is home using her litter box. I clean it twice daily and double bag the per clumps for the daily trash along with food waste.
In more enlightened communities/states composting with yard waste of “clean” vegetable and rinsed egg shells is routine.
But in more regressive Florida my neighbors routinely put non recyclable food encrusted containers and used tissues in recycling. Their ignorance and bad hygiene astounds me.
My gripe session is now over.

      2. Sorry Janet, folks with true service dogs know the rules about them wearing a vest saying as much and follow the rules. These two ladies just felt “entitled” to do this because they felt they could. It’s really time for folks to start public shaming these folks so they start doing the right thing & follow the law! If you can’t go buy groceries without taking your dog with you, you need some help…mentally, and should take care of it. The worse part is just their crazy sense of entitlement that I don’t understand!

      3. Service dogs don’t ride in shopping carts as is often seen in Publix, CVS and other establishments. Service dogs don’t lunge, jump and bark at others for no reason as is often seen. Service dogs don’t wander on extended leashes as is often seen in these establishments. Service dogs don’t stiff at food products as you see in food establishments. Easy solution. Florida needs to require that Service Animals meet standards to perform necessary duties and require them to wear state issued vests certifying their status. You will see how quickly the number of animals in food establishments drops considerably. Most are just family pets. The sense of entitlement among the violators is palpable.

      4. Let her sue…..and if she is WRONG….them she should pay a hefty fine. If she is not wrong then she is entitled to a “sorry lady”. But I bet that’s not gonna happen. A place where food is provided is NOT a place to bring your dog!!! The dog in the picture is not wearing a disability collar or has a leash of that sort either. I have 2 dogs and would NEVER bring them to places serving/selling etc. food. Tired of these folks who think they are exceptions to the rule…..I hear there’s a guy running for president who follows this rule…..guess she is one of the supporters……

    2. Gail Boulder you are absolutely right. That is the only way this will stop if there are consequences such as fines and shoppers being trespassed from these stores going forward.

    3. Wow, this is news? I have a shihtzu, four to be exact. My wife and I have no kids so they are kinda like a furry replacement. My dogs serve no medical purpose other than they are adorable. But my wife makes clothes for them and we take them to the store almost everyday, Publix, Walmart, etc. The one we usually take is like 7 pounds and is shaved (shihtzus have hair not fur) I never, ever put her down in a store. She is carried by me the entire time. I would never put her in a cart on on a surface for sanitary reasons. Why should I not be allowed to bring her in? She’s wearing clothes and is more than likely cleaner than a lot of people that enter. She literally sits like a teddy bear and says nothing, even when other dogs or people react to her. She sits there with her blank clueless shihtzu stare looking adorable. So while I understand nasty people putting their dogs in carts or pooping, etc I shouldn’t be placed in the same category as these others. And I’ve never been told anything by anyone, manager or otherwise. Employees know my girl and they love her and come up and pet her little head. We are not all ignorant as some and shouldn’t be painted with the same brush.

      1. Hey BURP…there is NO GOOD REASON to take your pets shopping …..you only make life a little more of a pain in the ass for others. I don’t give a darn if she is one pound and sits on your nose…the sign says “NO DOGS ALLOWED” what part of that don’t you understand????

      2. It is still against the law, no matter how cute and what clothes she wears. It is a misdemeanor, first offense and each subsequent. After first offense, could be jailed up to 6 months and community service. Some people are highly allergic to dogs, could trigger severe asthmatic response, some face great fears, it could be very dangerous to immune suppressed. Dander, hair of pet airborne, risk to real service animal costing up t$10,000-$50,000, several years very specific training, sometimes years on waitlist. Your cute pet children do not belong in food stores, restaurants, Walmart, Target. It’s the LAW, not an option. Bring Fifi to the dog park, she will enjoy, have Publix deliver the groceries to you and Fifi your car in the parking lot

    1. You are right! Not worth reading. In fact, I do think that an article about what kind of services services animals per performance probably necessary at this point as well as the requirements. The ADA does not require a service animal to wear a vest. In fact, a service animal can perform jobs such as medical alert, and be a fluffy, cute animal that does not shed. In fact, many organizations, who have such service animals use poodle like animals for their amazing scent capabilities. Not only do anything needs to get a life in terms of these articles, but it also needs to get an education.

  2. This is the Karen article, along with all the Karen comments. These dogs aren’t interfering with anyone’s life. Calm down. There’s more going on in the world than worrying about a tiny animal in the grocery store. Plus, I bet there’s plenty of other tiny animals that you don’t even know about that aren’t on a leash there anyway.

  3. The amount of entitled and selfish people down here just astound me. We were at a craft fair in downtown Delray on Saturday. We saw a dog in a service vest sniffing another dog’s private parts. There is NO way that service vest was real. Just another phony who probably stopped on the way home with his phony service dog in the supermarket or took the phony service dog to a restaurant on Atlantic Avenue. So sick of all of them.

    1. There are humans out there sniffing much worse things out there. You got to be crazy to think humans are cleaner than dogs!!! Do you wonder why money and all public surfaces are extremely dirty??? And it’s not the dog’s fault!!

      1. What part of “it’s against the law” don’t you seem to understand? Is English not your first language? Seriously, we have laws in this country for a reason. As good citizens, we follow them because in a society, well…that’s what one does. So all you folks who are defending this ridiculous practice of some entitled folks, enough already! You and they are not above the law last I looked! Behave yourselves folks!!!

    1. Like unruly children and inattentive parents, there are gross people out there, but neither still validate being able to bring your dog to a supermarket. Period.

  4. I think the reason why all these articles about dogs in public places or written by “staff reports”, as opposed to placing a name for a journalist is because if someone got the name of the journalist and then put that name to a face, that person would not be able to eat or drink in Palm Beach county without being harassed by dog owners. Or worse.

  5. I have kids… I have dogs. I love my dogs like my kids, give them snuggles, take them on walks etc. I have compassion and respect. I love seeing dogs on walks and often stop and pet them.. with that being said, dogs do not belong in the grocery store, Target, Walmart, restaurants, or the beach… Period!!!! Any respectable person would understand this. I truly enjoy reading these articles. I have lived all over Florida.. born and raised here. After moving to South Florida I honestly could not believe what I was seeing in people. The disrespect, entitlement and rudeness of people here is truly unlike any other place I’ve ever lived. Keep writing these articles Boca News!
