UPDATE: 8:21 a.m. — The main lanes of I-95 are now open. The express lanes remain closed.

UPDATE: 7:50 a.m. — Florida Highway Patrol just provided the following information to BocaNewsNow.com. We are publishing the report the way we received it:

Non-Motorist 01 (P-1) – 21-year-old black female from Cape Coral, Florida (Fatal Injuries; Next of Kin has not been notified)

Driver of Vehicle 2 (D-2) – 31-Year-old black male from Boca Raton, Florida (Non-Incapacitating Injuries)

V-1 had just been involved in a prior motor vehicle crash. V-1 was stopped facing east upon the outside express lane of northbound Interstate 95 (State Road 9) south of Copans Road due disabling damage sustained from the prior motor vehicle crash. V-2 was traveling north upon the outside express lane of northbound Interstate 95 south of Copans Road, approaching the location of V-1. P-1 was originally the driver of V-1. P-1 was standing north of V-1. D-2 did not observe V-1 until there was not enough distance to avoid V-1. The front of V-2 collided with the right side of V-1. Post collision, V-1 was propelled in a northwesterly direction. V-1’s right side then collided with P-1. V-1 continued traveling in a northwesterly direction, where it then collided with the concrete barrier wall. V-1 was redirected in a northeasterly direction where it came to rest facing southeast while occupying the inside express lane. Post collision with V-1, P-1 was propelled north. P-1 fell/tumbled onto the outside express lane. Post collision with V-1, V-2 rotated clockwise as it traveled in a northeasterly direction. V-2’s tires then traveled over P-1. V-2 came to rest facing a southeasterly direction as it occupied the outside express lane and inside general-purpose lane.

P-1 was pronounced deceased on scene by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel.

UPDATE: 7:01 a.m. — All northbound lanes remain closed.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A fatal crash in North Broward County has closed I-95 northbound in north Broward County. The crash was first reported around 1:30 a.m.

FDOT issued this advisory early Monday: “Emergency vehicles in Broward County on 95 Express North, beyond Exit 36: Atlantic Blvd. All lanes closed. Last updated at 05:30 AM.”

It was not immediately clear how many people are dead or what led to the crash. This follows Friday’s fatal crash on I-95 that left three people dead. In that incident, a man was driving his vehicle south in the northbound express lanes.

He crashed into a vehicle — heading in the correct direction — in the area of Palmetto Park Road. The wrong-way driver was killed. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were also killed. The investigation into that incident continues. It was not immediately clear how the wrong-way driver entered the northbound express lanes and drove south.
