PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man was killed by a Corvette — the impact of his body left on the windshield — on Australian Avenue. The West Palm Beach Police Department is now investigating, and shared with BocaNewsNow.com the following statement:
A 35-year-old man running across South Australian Avenue died after being hit by a Corvette late Friday night.
The 911 call came in at 10:48 p.m. April 5 after a 2021 Corvette, driven by Bernard Emmanuel, 25, of West Palm Beach, struck a man crossing the road. The pedestrian was identified as James Callen Christopher, 35, at-large. He was crossing Australian Avenue midway between Worthington and Belvedere roads when he was struck. Christopher impacted the windshield of the Corvette and landed in the grassy median in the 2400 block of Australian Avenue. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Christopher was not in a crosswalk as he proceeded from east to west across the six-lane, divided roadway. The Corvette struck the pedestrian in the inside lane and stopped several hundred feet from the impact. Emmanuel, along with a woman who was his 21-year-old passenger, were not injured but taken by West Palm Beach Fire Department rescue to Good Samaritan Medical Center to get checked out. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor, nor are there any charges pending however, the investigation is ongoing.
