BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The stubborn brush fire burning in the area of Costco on Congress Avenue in Boca Raton is again burning. Firefighters from multiple agencies have tried multiple times to extinguish the flames since the fire first broke out Thursday morning. After some success, it appears the fire is burning again as of late Sunday afternoon.
The City of Boca Raton reports that Congress Avenue is largely closed in the 7400 block. That’s just north of Clint Moore Road and just a few hundred yards from the Costco location being used as a reference point.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue told BocaNewsNow.com late Thursday that as many as 50 firefighters from multiple agencies — including the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue were on the scene for the initial outbreak. The area is so dense that drones were used to visualize the most intense areas of the fire. The gusty winds over the past few days have apparently made it difficult to completely extinguish the blaze.
While there is no indication of criminality at this point, BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the initial blaze, which is likely related to the subsequent fires. It may be a smart move Sunday to figure out an alternate route to work or school on Monday if you normally use Congress in the area of Costco.
