PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A parent is suing the Palm Beach County School District, claiming that school officials did nothing after she reported that her daughter was the victim of antisemitism. The lawsuit, which seeks to have the alleged aggressor kicked out of school, was just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.
The complaint, which we are publishing in its entirety below, makes the following claim against administrators at Jupiter High School. BocaNewsNow.com obtained the suit Monday.
”Plaintiff, is a student at Jupiter High School (hereinafter, “JHS) and she was so at all times germane to this Complaint. On January 30, 2023, during the 2022/2023, school year, Plaintiff became the victim of antisemitic remarks by AG, another JHS student. Plaintiff’s parents filed multiple complaints of harassment with the JHS administration and other school officials. School officials failed to investigate the complaints and no action was taken against AG.”
After what the Plaintiff alleges to be continued harassment, including via SnapChat, the school district allegedly ordered both students to in-school “mediation.” But the parent of alleged victim suggested that the school’s response was for show, not substance.
”Without any further investigation, notification to or consent from her parents, JHS administration told Plaintiff to sign a “School-Based Stay Away Agreement” (hereinafter, “SAA”, requiring Plaintiff to stay 50 feet away from AG during school hours. The SAA indicated that the incident leading to its issuance occurred on September 14, 2023, the date of the mediation, but itproyides no detail as to what the alleged incident was. Plaintiff was also given an involuntary schedule change out of the culinary class that she shared with AG. More importantly, Plaintiff was issued a “Student Discipline Referral” (hereinafter, “Referral”), the first and only one of her academic career. The referral states that Plaintiff engaged in “continued confrontation w/another student after multiple warnings & mediation.”
The suit alleges that the Palm Beach County School District did nothing to protect the alleged victim or take action against the alleged antisemitic student. The School District had not filed a response to the suit — processed by the Palm Beach County Clerk of Court — as of Monday afternoon. Read the complete suit, below.
