BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Broward County teenager is in custody Monday afternoon after police say she made a threat to an area school. The Broward Sheriff’s Office provided BocaNewsNow.com with the following rundown of events:

“According to detectives, on Friday afternoon the 13-year-old student reported there was a shooting at Olsen Middle School in Dania Beach. The student said she told the dispatcher she was joking but the call had already disconnected. The student said she received a return call from 911 but did not answer because she was scared.

The student told detectives she did not believe her report would prompt a law enforcement response. Once the initial shooting report was received, BSO Dania Beach District deputies and other BSO units immediately responded to the school to address the possible threat. Within minutes, the all clear was given, and BSO TMU detectives responded to investigate the prank call.

Following her arrest, the girl was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing. She faces one count of making a false report of the use of a firearm in a violent manner.

BSO reminds the community that these types of threats are taken seriously, investigated fully and could result in criminal charges. Also, anyone who sees or hears these types of threats should report them to law enforcement or submit them to the SaferWatch app.”

The investigation was overseen by BSO’s Threat Management Unit. The 13-year-old middle school student was taken into custody on Friday and charged with making a false report of a school shooting.
