BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A resident of Century Village in Boca Raton is in the Palm Beach County jail early Thursday morning, charged with a second degree felony. Steven Friedenthal of Guilford D was taken into custody on Wednesday.
According to the Palm Beach County Jail, Friedenthal, 62, was in possession of ten or more images depicting children in pornographic acts. The acts were not specifically described.
While the affidavit of probable cause continues to be processed as of 5 a.m. Thursday, BocaNewsNow.com has learned Friedenthal was booked into jail at 9:03 on Wednesday after he was arrested several hours earlier. It was not immediately clear what led police to Friedenthal. We do know that online storage and social media companies, including Dropbox, Microsoft, Meta, and internet service providers including AT&T and Comcast/XFinity routinely alert the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children when potentially illegal images are stored or transmitted. It was not clear if occurred in this case.
Bond had not been set for Friedenthal as of early Thursday. Court records in Palm Beach County suggest this is his first interaction with local law enforcement.
