DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A massive house fire is burning midday Tuesday in the Tierra Delray community in West Delray Beach. The home is identified as an 11,000 square foot structure. Flames were seen burning through the roof as firefighters arrived on the scene around 12:25 p.m.

Rescue workers with knowledge of the ongoing scene reported small explosions in the home as they attempted to make entry. Two vehicles were seen in the driveway at 10178 El Paraiso Place as firefighters arrived on the scene. It was unclear if anyone was in the house at the time the fire started. An initial search revealed no people in the house as the fire burned.

The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser reports that the home is registered to the Amphelicia Pamula Trust and was initially purchased, before a quit claim, for $2,243,000 in September of 2020. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has 21 units on the scene as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Additional units are staging at 441 just south of Atlantic Avenue. Check back for updates.

UPDATE AT 2:28 p.m. from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue: “At 12:19, PBCFR Units were dispatched to the 10000 block of El Paraiso PL in western Delray for a reported residential structure fire.  911 callers reported seeing black smoke and flames. Initial arriving units found an approximate 11,000 square foot multi-story house with heavy flames and smoke showing. A second alarm was called.  Firefighters performed a rapid search and deployed multiple hoselines.  Two ladder trucks were used as well. The fire remains active as of 1:55.  El Paraiso Place remains closed to / from SR 441 at this time due to firefighting operations..  We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.”

UPDATE AT 4 p.m. — The fire is now out. Investigators believe it was caused by a lightning strike.
