BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The major rain storm pummeling South Florida is leading to major closures and delays. I-95 in Broward County is closed at Griffin Road to flooding on the roadway and on side streets. Broward Blvd. is at a standstill as cars are also dealing with flooding and have nowhere to go.
At Palm Beach International Airport, the majority of flights are cancelled or delayed throughout the evening. The story is the same at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International. Most flights were unable to leave their origins. Planes that are here are experiencing ground stops. The average inbound delay is seven hours as of 4:30 p.m. At Miami International Airport, the average delay is now four hours.
While I-95 and the Florida Turnpike in Palm Beach County remain passable, there are several accidents slowing traffic. Many side streets are also impassable as water tries to dissipate but has nowhere to go.
The National Weather Service has extended the flash flood watch until 8 p.m. on Friday. Heavy rain is expected for the region through tonight, then off-and-on through Friday.
