UPDATE: 5:20 p.m. — Rescues are underway in parts of Broward County where motorists are trapped on the top of their vehicles, unable to drive due to rising waters. Broward County Fire Rescue reporting 20-30 minute delays in responding to many calls due to the number of calls coming into its 911 center. BSO issued this statement a short time ago: “The Broward Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Division is receiving non-emergency calls via 911 regarding the inclement weather and disabled vehicles. Remember, 911 is only to be used for true emergencies. In a non-emergency, use the non-emergency number — (954) 764-HELP (4357). Motorists are urged to stay off the roadways until the flooding has subsided. If you must travel outside and find yourself stranded, do not call 911. Find a safe place to shelter and call a tow truck company, if necessary.”
