BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The likelihood that the system in the Gulf grows into something of significance is increasing, according to the early Saturday morning update from forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. While there is no immediate threat to anyone or anything, the system is something to keep an eye on as the waters of the Gulf are warm and this season is expected to be extremely active.

Here is the update from the NHC:

Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 AM EDT Sat Jun 15 2024 — Southwestern Gulf of Mexico: A broad area of low pressure is forecast to form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early next week. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by the middle part of next week while the system moves slowly westward or west-northwestward.

Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent. Formation chance through 7 days…medium…50 percent.

We note the yellow X that is now east of the east coast of the United States is unlikely to further develop. It is not expected to be one of those storms the loops around and returns. It should dissipate over the next several days.
