DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Expect Brightline delays Monday morning after a train incident in Delray Beach just before 5:30 a.m.
BocaNewsNow.com has leaned from first responders that a train and car collided in the area of George Bush Blvd. and NE 5th avenue. No injuries were reported but the vehicle sustained significant damage.
Expect delays on Brightline throughout the morning. It was unclear how long the train involved in the incident would be held at the scene. The car was removed from the tracks a short time after the crash.

UPDATE FROM DELRAY BEACH POLICE: At 5:21 a.m., a southbound Brightline train struck a car at George Bush Blvd & NE 5th Ave. The driver of the car was on the tracks when the gates came down. No injuries reported. The scene was cleared around 6:30 a.m.
The more I read, the more I have to shake my heads. Was the gate, bells and red lights not enough moron?
Shouldn’t the number of train collisions with cars and pedestrians necessitate the need for safety improvements? Perhaps there should be an additional signal some distance before the existing signals so that you would have to go through both signals to end up on the tracks when the train is coming. Maybe there are other better solutions, but perhaps there should be a study.
How about the driver of the car having responsibility for knowing and obeying the driving laws ( not trying to get around the crossing gates when they are down ) ?
