PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person is dead and an investigation is underway following a Brightline vs. Pedestrian incident in Lake Worth Beach on Tuesday afternoon. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office provided these details to BocaNewsNow.com.
“On June 18, 2024 at approximately 12:15 pm, deputies were dispatched to the 1600 Block of S Dixie Highway for an accident involving Brightline vs pedestrian. Road Patrol along with PBCFR arrived on scene and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene to investigate further.”
The victim has not been identified. The Brightline train was held as the investigation was launched, then permitted to depart. Passengers were not removed from the train during the investigation. It was unclear if the victim unintentionally walked onto the tracks or was attempting “suicide by train.”
Brightline is considered the deadliest train system in the United States due to the number of railway incidents that lead to death. Access to the tracks in much of South Florida is easier — and often not barricaded — unlike many other locations in the United States.

I don’t understand how anyone can blame a train for pedestrian deaths. How anyone could say Brightline is the deadliest train in the country is beyond comprehension. Trains are limited by tracks; pedestrians are not limited in where they go. Just sayin’
The same type of entitled folks who take their dogs to a grocery store or restaurant feel entitled to trespass, crossing a privately-owned railroad outside of designated crossings or when the barriers are down.
