BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An attempt to catch a shoplifter ended with a chase and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy being dragged in a Home Depot parking lot. The suspect was apprehended on the border of Boca Raton and unincorporated Boca Raton on Tuesday.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office shared details of what many witnesses say was one heck of a scene near Jog Road and Clint Moore Road early Tuesday evening:
”Deputies responded to the Home Depot (between Jog and Military Trail on Atlantic) regarding retail theft. The suspect fled from loss prevention and entered his parked vehicle. Once located, the deputy attempted to detain him while he was in the vehicle. Upon doing so, the suspect placed the vehicle in reverse and began to travel backwards while the deputy was still attempting to detain the suspect.
The deputy was drug by the vehicle and as a result, she sustained minor abrasions. The suspect vehicle was spotted traveling south on Jog Road where it eventually pulled into a plaza at Clint Moore Road and parked behind a drug store.
A perimeter was set and K9 along with aviation responded to the scene for a track. The suspect was located inside of the McDonalds in the same plaza shortly after. Detectives responded and interviewed the suspect who provided a full confession on his involvement and actions.”
The Deputy is said to be overall fine on Wednesday. A suspect was taken into custody. Check back later Wednesday for updates on the suspect and specific charges that were filed.

I’m happy to hear the Deputy is going to be ok.
As far as the perpetrator goes , I have no use or respect for criminals , I hope this person receives a harsh sentence not only for stealing but for risking the safety of a Law Enforcement Officer.
Th deputy was “drug”! You definitely need a proofreader!
Ros, we do not edit police reports.
“The deputy was ‘drug’ by the vehicle and as a result, she sustained minor abrasions.” The deputy was drug??? How about “The deputy was dragged by the vehicle…”
Carol, we do not edit police reports.
Deputies are not hired for their educational level – there hired for their physical skills. Most have only a high school education and are hard working and brave. Give ‘em a break!!!
We agree. We thank them for what they do.
Not true! You have to have a college degree to become an officer!
Deputies are hired for their bravery not their smarts
You cannot be serious!
