DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County man with a wife and young children is dead after doctors at Delray Medical Center allegedly misdiagnosed a “massive intracranial hemorrhage” as a gastrointestinal issue during two visits to the hospital’s emergency room. Multiple doctors allegedly believed that Paul Floyd’s complaint of hypertension and a documented elevated respiratory rate were related to a stomach issue when he was rushed by his family to the Emergency Room on October 19, 2023. He was released, brought back to the ER, and allegedly released again — but that’s when his wife demanded that he be admitted for observation. At no time, according to the lawsuit just filed, did ER doctors consider that Mr. Floyd was suffering from a neurological issue. Paul Floyd died days later of a brain bleed.

BocaNewsNow.com is not listing the specific doctors identified in the lawsuit, but we are publishing the lawsuit — in its entirety — at the end of this article. We note that a lawsuit is only an allegation. The validity of the complaint will be determined in court.

The following section from the suit provides key elements of the argument: “After the medical personnel at Delray Medical Center wrongfully sought an ever-elusive gastrointestinal diagnosis for two days that was never found, while completely ignoring PAUL MICHAEL FLOYD’s neurological symptomology and risk factors, he was found unresponsive by nurses at the hospital in the late evening hours of October 21, 2023. At that point, PAUL MICHAEL FLOYD was finally sent for a CT scan of his brain, conducted at approximately 12:30 AM on October 22, 2023, that revealed a massive intracranial hemorrhage that was missed and allowed to occur and proliferate from the time he presented to the emergency department on October 19, 2023, through the time he went for the subject brain CT scan.

The intracranial hemorrhage that was missed and untreated was allowed to proliferate from the time that PAUL MICHAEL FLOYD first presented to the emergency department on October 19, 2023, through the time of his first brain CT scan of October 22, 2023, proved to fatal, and PAUL MICHAEL FLOYD suffered a wrongful death on October 23, 2023.”

The suit, filed by his wife Laura Floyd, seeks in excess of the $50,000 — the statutory minimum for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. It lists three doctors in addition to Inphynet Contracting Services LLC, Pulmonology And Sleep Center, LLC and Delray Medical Center, Inc.

Laura Floyd is represented by the Grife Law Firm in Boca Raton. Delray Medical Center and related defendants had not filed notice of representation with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts as of Thursday, June 20th, 2024. Read the complete lawsuit here.

  1. I will never step into that hospital ever again after going to the ER, left on a gurney in the hallway for over 14 hours and told by a doctor that I was just dehydrated and sent home. Went to another hospital the next day after feeling worse and doctor found I had pneumonia and ended up in the hospital for several days.

  2. i believe i almost died because of delray medical center in july 2017. i had what was thought to be a stomach virus and was released after 6 days 2 days later still with ghills and low grade fever went back to emergency room and was given n intraveinous drip and released again and told i was ok. that night at 10pm they called and was told i should come back that night because i now had a bacterium in my blood. after going sepsis and almost dying i was given antibiotics for 7 days released again for 30 more days at home with antibiotics. never sued but i would never go there again. there are other hospitals

  3. Don’t understand how this hospital is allowed to remain open with all the negative reviews it has and nothing gets corrected. Ever since Tenet took over this hospital it has gone to hell.

  4. Someone need to write to JACO. (Joint Commission ) and report them.
I have read too much complaints about this hospital that is not positive and unnecessary deaths.

  5. My brother-in-law fell and was bleeding from his head. We took him to Delray Medical Center and he was admitted. The next evening after work my husband and I went to see him. He still had blood on the side of his face and hadn’t seen a doctor since the ER. He was in the hospital for 4 days and they released him. He looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy, his whole body was swollen. He seemed in worse shape than when he went in to the hospital. It is very sad and frightening that a hospital was allowed to function so poorly.
