BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The official National Hurricane Center map is relatively quiet. There’s a system near Texas which will likely be a rainmaker but little else. Otherwise, there are no developing systems rising to the level of “X” treatment as of Sunday afternoon. But… there are several waves being watched by forecasters, and those waves can develop.

The following is part of the Tropical Discussion from the National Hurricane Center as of 4p Sunday, June 23, 2024. You can plot the coordinates on the map, above:

An eastern Atlantic tropical wave axis along 21W, south of 14N, is moving westward at 10-15 kt. Scattered showers are noted between the wave’s axis and 26W.

A central Atlantic tropical wave axis along 42W, south of 13N, is moving westward at around 15 kt. No significant convection is depicted associated with this wave.

Another central Atlantic tropical wave is along 54W, south of 20N, moving westward at 10-15 kt. Scattered moderate convection is depicted from 06N to 10N along the waves axis.

An eastern Caribbean tropical wave is along 66W, south of 15N, moving westward at 10-15 kt. The wave is enhancing the storm activity south of 13N and over central Venezuela.

A western Caribbean tropical wave is along 80W, south of 18N, moving westward at 10-15 kt. The wave is enhancing convective activity S of 12N.

As for the Texas system: Southwestern Gulf of Mexico (AL93): Disorganized showers and thunderstorms continue in association with a low pressure area centered about 20 miles southeast of La Pesca, Mexico. The low is expected to move inland within the next few hours, and the chance of tropical cyclone formation is decreasing. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is likely to continue through tonight across portions of northeastern Mexico, leading to localized flooding.

Formation chance through 7 days…low…20 percent. Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent.
