BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Ten people were arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend in the final hours before a new law “street takeover” went into effect. Starting now, anyone taking part in a “street takeover” faces major fines and felony charges. Operation “Hot Wheels” — executed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office — netted 160 traffic stops, 149 citations, 60 written warnings, 17 criminal traffic citations, 5 vehicles towed, and ten arrests. All on Saturday.

PBSO Monday morning is reminding all Floridians — and visitors — the new “street takeover” laws that went into effect at 12:01 this morning:

”If you participate in a street takeover involving ten or more vehicles, known as a coordinate street takeover, you will be charged with a felony and subject to a fine of between $2500 and $4000.

If you obstruct a police or fire vehicle responding to an emergency while racing, taking over a street or stunt driving, you will be charged with a felony. In addition, your driver’s license will be revoked for four years for any second or subsequent violation.

Police can seize your vehicle for forfeiture when the violation is a felony and your driver’s license will be revoked for 2 years. A spectator will be charged with a non criminal traffic violation and fined $400.

Any car used in a misdemeanor violation can be impounded for 30 business days, whether or not the person arrested is the registered owner.”

  1. Why does the law state “10 or more vehicles?” If I want to do this I would ensure only 9 vehicles are involved. This makes no sense to me. One vehicle doing this should be enough for an arrest and charge.

    1. Mind boggling the morons we have that make up these laws. Any vehicle that takes over an intersection or street should be charged with a felony and car impounded.

  2. What genus came up with if it’s ten vehicle’s or more, only than they will be charged with a felony. So now they will make sure to have no more than nine cars involved when these morons take over an intersection. Amazing the morons we have that make up laws.
