UPDATE: BocaNewsNow.com obtained additional information from Boca Raton Police at 8:40 p.m. Saturday: “The first call came in at 5:01 p.m. There were Boca Raton Police officers already on property and numerous others responded. Some callers were saying gunshots and some were saying fireworks. Dispatch advised callers to shelter in place until officers could confirm. Mall security quickly notified officers that a large group of individuals on bicycles had just set off fireworks inside the front entrance, and officers were able to confirm that information within a few minutes. The individuals fled the area and we continue to investigate. “
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Boca Raton Police Department Saturday afternoon responded to the sound of gunshots in the area of 6000 West Glades Road which is Boca Raton Town Center Mall.
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that while the scene was significant, there was never a threat to anyone. It turns out the sound of gunfire was actually the sound of fireworks being detonated.Police remain in the area as of 5:50 p.m. There is no lockdown in effect and the mall continues regular operations.

The first call was apparently received by the Boca Raton Police Department around 5 p.m., and officers were on the scene moments later. There is a police substation located in Boca Raton Town Center Mall.
People heard the fireworks, assumed they were gunshots and fled. There was a bit of a stampede. When i asked what was wrong, i was told there was a shooter.
Large numbers of people fled outside. The police seemed to quiet situation quickly. Within 10-20 minutes, people started reentering mall. People were very freigntened.
