BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton is again heading to court — this time the club is suing two homeowners who allegedly haven’t paid fees and dues for more than a year.
According to the complaint obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Onajite and Mina Okoloko own property in the 6000 block of NW 22nd Avenue in the Broken Sound community. When closing on a home in Broken Sound, homeowners must agree to pay all fees, dues, membership charges — everything. And the Okolokos apparently did just that. But when the bills came, they seemingly did not pay.
As of the time of the filing in Palm Beach County Court, the Okolokos owe $22,386. That includes general assessments, service charges, family dues, renovation fees, a capital assessment, and more. The late notices, according to the suit, started in 2023. The suit was just filed. The community is threatening a lien of foreclosure.
Under Florida law, fees, dues, assessments and more are not open for debate. If you live in a community with a master association, you are responsible for paying pretty much any bill sent by the community. The latest Florida statutes regarding HOAs do not change this.
Broken Sound is represented by Dale Schley of Laing, Weicholz, Schley, PLLC, of Boca Raton. The defendants do not have an attorney of record. Read the complete lawsuit here.
