BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A dramatic rise in new COVID-19 cases continues across Palm Beach County as of July 17, 2024. Infections are impacting so many people — including kids — that area summer camps are reminding parents to keep kids home if they are exhibiting signs of sickness. Parents are sending kids to area camps despite fevers of 100 or more, chills, and other issues.

The Florida Department of Health, which continues to track COVID cases that are logged by medical professionals, but do not include tests confirmed using “home test kits,” says there were 1,631 cases reported the week of July 5th, 2024 — the most recent week for which data is processed.

Over the previous six weeks, the weekly numbers reported in Palm Beach County were 458, 593, 808, 932, 1,151, and now 1,634. Broward and Miami-Dade each have higher counts, with 2,119 for Broward and 3,902 for Miami-Dade. The Tri-County area leads the state of Florida’s COVID count.

Hospital data is no longer logged for COVID-19 cases by the Centers for Disease Control. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis significantly limited state data collection of other metrics during the COVID-19 outbreak. Those limits continue. The state claims that no one has died from COVID in Palm Beach County since the week ending June 21 when three deaths were logged.
