UPDATE: 7:08 a.m. — Traffic is moving again.
UPDATE: 6:07 a.m. — One lane is now getting by, but it’s doing little to alleviate the congestion.
UPDATE FROM FDOT: this is EASTBOUND/SOUTHBOUND, so affecting traffic heading TOWARDS South Florida, NOT towards Southwest Florida.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you’re heading from Southwest Florida to Southeast Florida this morning, stay off of Alligator Alley for the next several hours. A major tractor trailer crash on I-75 southbound has led to a traffic standstill as of 5:30 a.m.
We know nothing about injuries at this point, but traffic is backed up for miles on the approach to the toll booths. FDOT issued this alert at 5:28 a.m: “Crash involving a tractor-trailer in Broward County on I-75 South, beyond Toll Plaza. All lanes blocked. Last updated at 05:28 AM.”
images from FDOT cameras show a huge line of vehicles just waiting. There is no realistic alternative once you’re on Alligator Alley in the area of the tolls. If you’re heading east this morning from Southwest Florida, consider heading north to Lake Okeechobee, then heading east, then heading south. It’s a long, long detour.
We encourage you to check FL511.com throughout the morning for real-time updates from the Florida Department of Transportation. We’ll update BocaNewsNow.com as well.
