BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Major overnight road construction will make it difficult for anyone trying to access Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport overnight or early Wednesday morning. The airport is advising motorists to seek alternate routes to the airport and to expect significant delays.
According to airport officials and the Florida Department of Transportation, all eastbound lanes of I-595 will be closed between I-95 and US-1 from 11 p.m. Tuesday night until 5 a.m. Wednesday. You may think this is no big deal — it’s overnight. There are several flights that arrive after 11 p.m. at FLL, and the first flight out is early in the 5 a.m. hour.
The best bet if you’re heading south from Boca Raton or anywhere in Palm Beach County is to exit at SR-84 and head east to U.S. 1, then enter the airport as you normally would. Traffic on U.S. 1 should — at least in theory — be fine.
The closure is part of massive construction that continues in the area of I-95 and I-595. The project is expected to continue for years.
