BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Part of East Boca Raton is being evacuated around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday due to a gas leak. The evacuation is precautionary and standard for gas leak situations.

Police tell BocaNewsNow.com that it’s in the area of 3500 North Federal Highway. Stores and businesses are being evacuated. There does not appear to be any residential building — apartment, condo, or house — that is affected.

Expect traffic in the area to be challenging at best for at least the next hour. North Federal is closed in the area. Traffic is being rerouted west to side streets.

There’s no immediate word as to what led to the gas leak — whether it was construction or a pipe failure. Check back for updates throughout the evening.
