BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Brightline service between Miami and West Palm Beach is showing major delays in both directions as of 6 p.m. after a train struck and killed a pedestrian. The incident happened mid-afternoon. The Broward Sheriff’s Office issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:

At approximately 3:45 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 7, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a crash involving a train and a pedestrian near the 1500 block of South Dixie Highway in Deerfield Beach. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded.

On scene, emergency crews learned an individual had been struck by a Brightline train. The individual was pronounced deceased on scene. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Check GoBrightline.com for the latest train status. Expect delays to continue for several hours. Brightline, based on statistics, is considered the deadliest deadliest passenger rail line in the United States. Critics and supports both agree that the number of street-level tracks — often cutting through busy streets and pedestrian walkways — is a factor in the deaths.

  1. It seems as though there is a death involving Brightline trains a couple of times a month. I have often been at RR crossings when the train goes by. There are flashing lights, loud bells and the train’s whistle sounding. You would have to be deaf and blind not to be aware of an oncoming train, even if you are in a vehicle with the radio blasting. So we either have the stupidest people in south Florida who get struck by the trains, or all of the victims are drunk, stoned, or are committing suicide!

  2. Why do people keep blaming Brightline? These are high speed trains and their existence has been well publicized.
They do not suddenly appear out of thin air, they run on rails, crossing have gates, lights, bells. If you ignore them you face the consequences of death

  3. Agreed! I live in downtown Ft Lauderdale very near the FEC tracks with multiple RR crossings in the city and pedestrian only crossings as well. All are clearly marked with visual and audio signals. One would be deaf, blind and dumb or on a suicide mission to take no heed at these train crossings. TriRail, Amtrak and the freight trains all have these accidents. Don’t tempt fate with the trains!
