UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol tells BocaNewsNow.com just after 5 p.m. that the Turnpike is now open again. Here’s what investigators say happened.
Vehicle one, a 2020 Silver Mercedes Benz C63 Coupe, was traveling at an excessively fast rate of speed upon the inside paved shoulder of southbound State Road 91 (Florida’s Turnpike) south of State Road 804 (Boynton Beach Boulevard). V-2, a 2016 Freightline Tractor hauling a trailer, was traveling south upon the center lane of southbound State Road 91 south of State Road 804. V-1 was rapidly approaching the location of V-2. Driver One, an unidentified white male is now dead, failed to maintain control of V-1. V-1 began to travel in a southwest direction. V-1 traveled through the inside lane and entered the center southbound lane of southbound State Road 91. Subsequently, the front of V-1 collided with the rear of V-2’s trailer.
Due to the offsetting height. V-1 traveled under V-2’s trailer, and V-1 became entangled with the rear of V-2’s trailer. Post collision, V-2 was driven to a controlled stop onto the outside paved shoulder of southbound State Road 91 with V-1 entangled with V-2’s trailer.
