BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County School Board is set to expel three students for weapons offenses. The expulsions will be finalized during the School Board’s Wednesday meeting.
According to documents reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, all three students violated school board policy 5.1814. Based on the language used to describe 5.1814 — the District’s “Zero Tolerance” policy, the students may have been found with tasers, firearms, knives, or box cutters on school grounds.
For two of the students, the description of the violation was logged this way: “The Principal issued a referral for violation of the School Board Policy 5.1814. The student’s code of conduct offense was investigated and mitigating factors were considered. The student and family were provided opportunities for due process. I recommend the Board expel student (redacted) from the regular school program of the School District of Palm Beach County for one (1) calendar year from the date of the offense. I further recommend the attached Final Order be adopted and entered by the School Board.”
The record was slightly different for one student: “The Principal issued the student a referral for violation of the School Board Policy 5.1814. The student’s code of conduct offense was investigated and mitigating factors were considered. The student and his parent were afforded opportunities for due process. I recommend the modification of the one-year expulsion requirement and the assignment of the student to a disciplinary program as provided by Florida Statute 1006.13.”
The Palm Beach County School District no longer releases information regard the schools involved, the weapons allegedly in the possession of a student, or the race of the student facing expulsion.
