BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton resident Barbara Shortt certainly isn’t short on stories about her stays in jail. The 48-year-old woman was just arrested for the 17th time in Palm Beach County since July of 2018. She remain in custody Wednesday night.

Shortt’s latest arrest is, according to court records, for not showing up to a court hearing on a grand theft charge filed against her earlier in the year. A man claims that he let her live in his home — as she apparently had no place to stay — but captured her on a “nest” cam stealing thousands of dollars of watches from his bedroom. She was arrested, posted bond, and was supposed to show up in court in July. She didn’t. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

Ironically, Shortt was arrested just days earlier — on July 15th — after loss prevention in Nordstrom Rack alleged she stole $148.62 worth of merchandise, including a shirt and a shoulder bag. That case continues. Earlier this year Shortt was arrested charged with additional thefts, driving with a suspended license while a “habitual offender,” and drug possession.

Shortt was apprehended by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday and locked up at 8:07 a.m. She is being held without bond late Wednesday afternoon. She lists the unit block of Forrest Hills Lane in Boca Raton as her residential address.

  1. So you decided to shame this woman instead of focusing on the failures of public policy that lead her to be arrested 17 times? Where was the intervention? Clearly cycling her in and out of jail is doing nothing to keep the public safe but instead is wasting our taxpayer money on incarcerating her. Where’s that perspective in this article?!
