BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A reminder to drivers who plan to be on I-95 late tonight or early Tuesday. The Florida Department of Transportation is closing the Interstate to assist FP&L with major electrical work. Here’s what we reported over the weekend:

I-95 will close in both directions just south of Boca Raton Monday night. The closure, which will start at 11 p.m., should end around 5 a.m. Tuesday. The Interstate will be completely closed in both directions.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, FP&L will be installing transmission lines between the area of SW 10th Street and Hillsboro Boulevard, weather permitting. The work is part of the overall expansion and enhancement to I-95 that is ongoing in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

The detour for overnight I-95 closures takes northbound traffic east to Dixie Highway, north to Hillsboro and then back onto the Interstate. The southbound detour takes traffic west to Powerline Road, south to SW 10th Street, and then back onto I-95. We note that even during the overnight hours, this is expected to cause significant backups and delays. Traffic often remains heavy on I-95 in Palm Beach and Broward around the clock.

While the closure is expected to wrap by 5 a.m., note that occasionally the closures last longer than expected. We suggest that you plan accordingly if you are an early commuter using I-95 in North Broward on Tuesday morning.
