BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — BocaNewsNow.com has obtained the “risk protection order” filed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, seeking to hold Chirag Patel in custody for as long as a judge will permit. Patel was arrested near Whispering Pines Elementary School on Thursday. Read the complete order, below.
As BocaNewsNow.com was first to report, Patel — who has a child in the school — was banned from Whispering Pines Elementary after allegedly spewing Anti-Semitic statements at school staffers, and posting a series of anti-Jewish posts to social media — many implying future violence. Patel made references to the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre in at least one post in the hours before his arrest.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, claiming that it was acting on an anonymous tip submitted in the Palm Beach County School District’s crime reporting app “Fortify,” arrested Patel on Friday when police say they were directed to a location near Whispering Pines where Patel was looking into the windows of a home. Police say they caught him in the act. He remains behind bars Saturday morning. In the risk protection order filed by PBSO, a detective states that Patel is a risk to himself and others and suffers from severe mental illness. The document states that an effort was made to alert Patel’s family to his alleged mental health issues.
We are publishing the slightly redacted “risk protection order” below. The RPO is in effect for at least two weeks. A hearing will be held on September 10th. It is unclear if Mr. Patel may be released from jail prior to the hearing — provided that he has no access to weapons. His arrest is unrelated to any activity that occurred at the school or against school staffers.
