BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash has closed I-95 northbound in Broward County as of 8 a.m. Friday. Traffic is backed up to at least Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Southbound is experiencing major gaper delays. The crash is in the area of Atlantic Avenue.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation and first responders, the crash was first reportred just before 8 a.m. At least one person is said to be critically injured. It is unknown if anyone was killed. Fire Rescue, FHP, and road rangers are on the scene.
If you are heading northbound, get off of I-95 before Sunrise and move over to either Powerline Road Florida Turnpike, or any other North-South route. Take that northbound to at least Hillsboro Boulevard, although Palmetto Park Road is likely a better option. If you are traveling southbound, prepare for major delays if you stay on I-95. Alternatively, exit at — or before Sample Road — and take Powerline/Jog southbound past Atlantic.
We’ll update if we receive more information from law enforcement and FDOT.
