BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you were sitting on the Sawgrass Expressway late Friday night moving nowhere, the cause was a serious crash in Deerfield Beach. The Northbound Sawgrass was closed around 10:45 and remained closed for several hours.
While we are awaiting an official update from police, first responders without permission to speak with media tell BocaNewsNow.com that a multi-car crash left three people trapped — needing extrication by rescuers. One person apparently sustained an amputation, but it was not clear if the amputation occurred on impact, or if rescuers performed a limb-removal in an effort to get the person out of the vehicle.

Cameras from the Florida Department of Transportation showed traffic backed up for miles with police blocking traffic on the Sawgrass and nearby feeder roads. We are awaiting an update from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol. It was not clear if the large police presence suggests that the crash was the result of a police pursuit or was part of a criminal investigation. Check back later Saturday for more information.
