BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Swimming is banned until further notice at two beaches in Boca Raton. One is in the City of Boca Raton, the second is maintained by Palm Beach County. Here’s the official announcement made Tuesday afternoon from health officials:

“The Florida Department of Health for Palm Beach County has posted a Health Advisory for Spanish River and South Inlet park beaches. A recent sampling showed elevated bacterial levels in the water. For the safety of residents & visitors, swimming is prohibited until further notice; however, the parks and beaches will remain open.

Additional water samples will be taken and it is hoped full use of the beaches may resume within the next 24 to 48 hours. South Inlet Park is a Palm Beach County park.”

Occasional closures are not unprecedented. The presence of bacteria does not necessarily mean someone will get sick. However, health officials advise staying out of the water when levels are higher than what is believed to be “acceptable.” The condition normally clears on its own within two days. We will update when the “all clear” is given by the Florida Department of Health.
