BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Just months after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis cut more than $900 million from the state budget for the arts, the City of Boca Raton wants the public to know that the arts — and art — are important. A meting is set for next week to reveal the results of a public art survey, and the everyone is invited to discuss art in the community. Here’s what the City of Boca Raton shared with BocaNewsNow.com.
The City of Boca Raton will host a Community Conversation: The Importance and Impact of Public Art, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Downtown Library, 400 NW 2nd Avenue. Presented by the City’s Public Art Boca Division, the event offers residents, artists and businesses the opportunity to provide valuable input that will shape the future of public art in our community.
Attendees will learn insights from the City’s recent Public Art Survey; hear from a panel of distinguished local art and placemaking experts who will share their perspectives on the vital role public art plays in creating a vibrant and engaged community; and participate in an input workshop to directly contribute ideas and feedback for the Public Art Boca program.
“Community feedback is a fundamental pillar to making the Public Art Boca program a success, and we encourage residents to attend and share their thoughts on how we make the City’s public spaces become more vibrant gathering places,” said Veronica Hatch, Public Art Coordinator for the City.
Guest panelists at the event include:
Irvin Lippman – Executive Director, Boca Raton Museum of Art
Sherryl Muriente – Public Realm Director, WPB Downtown Development Authority
Surale Phillips – Arts Consultant, Wolf/Brown and Co-Founder of DRMTM
Elayna Toby Singer – Administrator, Art in Public Places, Palm Beach County
