BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Hurricane Helene may be moving towards Florida’s west coast, but flights are being impacted all across the southeast. Tampa International, Fort Myers, and Tallahassee airports are effectively closed or closing, and that means planes that are supposed to be in one place are somewhere else. It’s the “somewhere else” that leads to deals and cancellations in areas not directly impacted by Helene.
As of mid-morning Thursday, Miami International is reporting 43 cancelled flights with 33 delays. The hardest hit is American Airlines. Envoy and Air Canada are also on the list which we expect will grow throughout the day. At Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, 33 flights have been cancelled so far, with Jet Blue, Southwest, American, Spirit, and Silver topping the list.
Palm Beach International Airport as of mid-morning Thursday is reporting just two cancellations and ten delays, although that number is almost assuredly going to grow as the day progresses. United, Allegiant, Bahamasair, and Delta are on the cancelled or delayed lists. We thank FlightAware.com for the updated data.
Most airlines have issued travel waivers for passengers expecting to fly over the next few days. We remind our readers: the early bird gets the seat. Change your flight as soon as possible if you are — or think you will be — affected by the storm.
