WPLG “Local 10” And “ME TV” File Suit In Palm Beach County Small Claims Court.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you ever wonder how much it costs to advertise on local TV, we know the answer. Not much. As the internet becomes the dominant news and entertainment source across the land, television stations are charging just $25 in some cases for advertising during regular programming, and just $250 during local news. But even that is apparently too much for one local business.
WPLG-TV, which operates as “Local 10” in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale television market, is suing Ox Flooring of South Florida, a Palm Beach County company. The suit, just filed in small claims court, alleges that Ox owes WPLG $5,078 for ads that ran in 2023. While a major television station suing in small claims court for just $5000 — and incurring legal fees to do so — is a sign of the times, what’s even more notable is the low advertising rate charged by the stations.
According to the complaint obtained by BocaNewsNow.com and published, in its entirety, below, ads on WPLG’s co-owned “MeTV” running between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays cost just $25 for 30-seconds. Granted, that time slot currently airs reruns of the Waltons, Gunsmoke, and “In The Heat Of The Night,” but it’s tough to see how $25 keeps the power running through the transmission tower. Also notable: the cost for running an ad during morning and afternoon news on “Local 10” is just $250 for 30-seconds — according to the suit. WPLG claims that Ox entered into an agreement to air ads on both stations, but didn’t pay in full after the ads aired. You can read the contract in the complaint, below.
Ox Floors had not filed a response to the suit processed by the Palm Beach County Clerk Of Courts as of Sunday morning. It’s unclear why Ox Floors has not paid. The company remains operational. Read the complete suit by downloading the official complaint right here:
