BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A reminder to parents and guardians across Palm Beach County: all public schools are closed Thursday for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. The day is listed as a “holiday” on the Palm Beach County School calendar. It was previously scheduled and is part of normal count for days on and days off. Most, if not all, private schools in Palm Beach County are closed as well.
In Broward County, schools are also closed for the holiday, but in Miami-Dade, it is an “optional” day off for teachers who otherwise are expected to take part in a planning day. Students, however, do not have school Thursday in Miami-Dade.
With Yom Kippur falling on a Saturday this year (starting at sundown Friday, October 11th), Thursday is the only day off for the Jewish holidays. The next day off for students in Palm Beach County public schools will be October 14th, followed by November 5th. Both are “teacher in-service” days. The Thanksgiving break for Palm Beach County public school students starts on November 25th and runs through Friday, November 29th.
The day off for Hurricane Helene last week will not affect the school calendar. Extra days are added to the calendar each year for unexpected closures.
