BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person is dead following a gruesome incident involving a train Friday night. Sources familiar with the situation tell BocaNewsNow.com that the dismembered remains of a body were found up and down the tracks near Camino Real and Dixie Highway in Boca Raton around 10:30 p.m. The location is near the Brightline Train Station for Boca Raton. The victim’s identity is unknown. The call for assistance was apparently made by a Brightline conductor. A northbound Brightline train is scheduled to arrive each night at the Boca Raton station at 10:36.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area at 10:35 p.m. Ten units were sent to the scene, but BocaNewsNow.com has learned that only a few were ultimately needed. There was no one to rescue. The Fire Rescue professionals arriving — in a practice all too common in South Florida — walked the tracks and found body parts. Brightline service was stopped for a while as police launched an initial investigation. It is not known whether the victim was male or female.

The problem of people being killed by trains is so bad in South Florida that Brightline, Florida East Coast Rail, TriRail and Amtrak all took part last week in a “Rail Safety Week.” In Palm Beach County alone, PBSO Deputies made “contact” with 55 people regarding what law enforcement is calling “railway incident.” Eleven people were arrested for trespassing on both Brightline and FEC/TriRail tracks.

Brightline is considered the deadliest rail system in the United States based on the number of pedestrians and motorists killed by trains each year. The Brightline service in Boca Raton is operating normally as of 6 a.m. Saturday.
