HURRICANE CENTER: Tropical Depression Could Form This Week Near Florida

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It may be late October, but the National Hurricane Center remains busy, with another system possibly forming south of Florida. The NHC Monday says a tropical depression could form later this week. While there is no immediate threat to Florida, the area shaded in orange, above, is something to keep an eye on. Here’s what hurricane center forecasters are saying early Monday:

Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 AM EDT Mon Oct 28 2024: For the North Atlantic… Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: Southwestern Caribbean Sea: A broad area of low pressure is likely to develop over the southwestern Caribbean Sea in a few days.

Gradual development is possible thereafter, and a tropical depression could form late this week or over the weekend while the system begins to drift northward or northeastward over the southwestern and south-central Caribbean Sea. Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent. Formation chance through 7 days…medium…40 percent.

Patty, Rafael, and Sara are the next three names as the 2024 hurricane season continues. The hurricane season ends on November 30th.
