BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delta Airlines flight Tuesday morning returned to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport moments after takeoff. The image above, courtesy of FlightRadar24.com, shows the plane’s route.
Delta Airlines confirmed the urgent landing to BocaNewsNow.com and provided this official statement: “Delta flight 2133 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to New York – LaGuardia (LGA) returned to FLL shortly after takeoff due to an odor in the cabin. The flight landed safely and returned to the gate normally. All customers are being accommodated with a new aircraft to New York, and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Delta 2133 is usually scheduled to depart FLL at 7 a.m. and land at LGA around 10 a.m. The flight, serviced by an Airbus A321, took off today at 7:08 a.m. and was back on the ground at 7:24 a.m. Various flight tracking services show a new estimated departure of 11:35 a.m. with an arrival around 2:30 p.m.
It was not immediately known how many passengers were on the plane, although that route is almost always sold out. An Airbus A321 with a Delta domestic configuration tends to have seats for around 190 passengers. Fire dispatch logs reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com indicate that the Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue Department sent multiple units to the scene to meet the plane when it arrived.
