BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Regardless of who wins the election, the true winner as of 3 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Beach County seems to be democracy. The ability to vote. We’re not saying that to be over the top. We’re saying that because the number are unreal. Just shy of 80 percent of all registered voters in Palm Beach County have cast a vote as of mid-afternoon. Polls remain open until 7:30 p.m.

Keeping in mind these numbers will grow, here’s what we’ve learned from he Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections. 344,432 people took part in early voting — voting where they showed up at a polling place to cast a vote. 233,459 people in Palm Beach County sent in a mail-in ballot. And as of 3 p.m., 124,081 people voted at poling places on Election Day. Put it all together and you’ve got 78.34-percent of the Palm Beach County electorate actually voting in this election.

Under Florida law, the early votes — whether by mail or at an early polling location — can’t be counted until polls close. But once they do, the so far largely flawless system should generate results rather quickly. Floridians are not just focused on the presidential race, but also key ballot measures including marijuana legalization and the right to abortion.

Fun Facts: the polling places with the most Election Day voters as of mid-afternoon are Hunter’s Run Country Club in Boynton Beach; Lakeview Baptist Church in Delray Beach; Temple Beth Kodesh in Boynton Beach; Ezell Hester Community Center in Boynton Beach; Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton; Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton; Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton, Victory Church in Boca Raton, and the Spanish River Library.
