BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, and multiple other agencies spent much of Monday night trying to find up to 14 migrants who came ashore in North Broward County around 7:00 p.m.

Sources connected to the operation tell BocaNewsNow.com that the person believed to be the captain of the small boat that delivered the migrants attempted to flee through the private Hillsboro Club. He was described as a black male without a shirt. He was apparently seen running through the club and then out the front onto A1A. At least one other person was seen swimming. A third was later seen hiding in trees. We’ve learned that three people were eventually taken into custody.

BSO and other agencies had a chopper over the scene within minutes. There was a huge presence on the ground and in the water. The country of origin for the migrants was not immediately known.

The ocean water has been exceptionally rough over the past several days leading to a large number of ocean rescues in Broward and Palm Beach County. It’s unknown how long the migrants were at sea. We are awaiting an update Tuesday morning from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
