BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person was killed around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday on the tracks used by Brightline in Boca Raton. It was not immediately clear if a Brightline train was involved, or another service that uses the tracks. The tracks are owned by FEC.
Sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that Boca Raton Police and Fire Communications received a call for assistance from someone on the train moments after the train apparently struck the individual. We do not know if the person was attempting “suicide by train” or happened to be on the tracks as the train approached. The initial call for emergency service was just north of the Brightline Train Station in Boca Raton.
First responders ultimately located a deceased individual with fatal injuries near the tracks a short distance from where the train struck the person. We do not know if the victim is male or female, or an approximate age.
This is the second train death in South Palm Beach County on Tuesday. A Tri-Rail train struck and killed a pedestrian in Delray Beach this morning. South Florida is one of the deadliest regions in nation for train incidents, with Brightline considered the deadliest rail service in the United States when it comes to pedestrians and vehicles being struck by trains.
