PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A critical crash around 7:45 p.m. has closed U.S. 441 in an area of U.S. 441 that is technically Lake Worth but considered by many to be Wellington. The road remains closed as of 9:45 p.m. and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
While we are awaiting official word from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Sources, BocaNewsNow.com has learned that a vehicular homicide investigation is underway following what is being described as a crash in the area of Versailles and U.S. 441/State Road 7. We do not know how many cars were involved or why this is believed to be a criminal investigation.
At least one person was airlifted to Saint Mary’s Medical Center — the closest trauma center to the crash scene. Multiple rescuers were called to the scene being overseen by PBSO.
Assume that U.S. 441 will be closed in both direction for the next several hours. Your best traffic bet is to head east to the Florida Turnpike or Lyons Road, although Lyons Road terminates northbound at Lake Worth Road. Your other alternative — if you are south of the scene — is heading west to 120th avenue, then heading north to Pierson/Stribling, then head east back to U.S. 441 which should be open at the interaction of Stribling. We’ll update once we learn more.
