Palm Beach County First Responders Called To Recue Man Who Didn’t Need Them.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man kayaking between Manalapan and Lake Worth Beach Wednesday morning didn’t need rescuing, but that didn’t stop his wife from calling 911 fearing that her husband was in trouble. That led to a massive response from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and other agencies — according to sources sharing details with BocaNewsNow.com.
The call for help, just after 9:30 a.m., led first responders to think a man was in serious trouble on the open water. Lifeguards, paramedics, jet ski operators, and a huge number of rescue workers all rushed to the scene. Even the Untied States Coast Guard deployed a vessel to help find the man — and rescue the man — apparently stuck in a kayak.
But when rescuers made it to the man allegedly in distress, he told them he wasn’t in distress at all. Just in the middle of a workout. A peaceful workout. Peaceful until rescue teams arrived to save him. The man in the kayak, when given the option of returning to shore with the rescue workers, declined. We won’t speculate as to why someone would continue their workout after their spouse sends a huge rescue team to bring them home, but we will speculate that Thanksgiving dinner may be a bit awkward this year.
First Responders, according to those familiar with the operation, wrapped the response in about an hour. We’ll find out what protocol is for Palm Beach County billing for emergency services when they’re not ultimately needed. We are thankful, however, that we have rescue professionals who are always read to stage a rescue, whether it’s actually needed or not.
