PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The critical crash on U.S. 441/SR 7 near the Wellington/Lake Worth line is now a fatal crash investigation. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells BocaNewsNow.com Thanksgiving morning that Nicholas Cohen of Lake Point Court in Lake Worth was struck and killed. He was on a dirt bike and apparently driving the wrong way.
Here’s what PBSO shared with BocaNewsNow.com just hours after the crash at State Road 7 and Versailles.
“Nicholas Cohen, 28, on a Kawasaki dirt bike was traveling westbound across the southbound travel lanes of State Road 7. The driver of Vehicle 2 (an Alfa Romeo Giulia) was traveling southbound on S State Road 7 within the inside lane. The Cohen failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he traveled into the path of the Alfa Romeo. During the crash, the front of Alfa Romeo impacted into the right side of Cohen’s dirt bike and Cohen. Nicholas Cohen traveled up onto the vehicle hood, windshield, and roof of the Alfa Romeo prior to impacting onto the pavement. The Alfa Romeo was brought to a controlled stop, while the dirt bike slid in a southwesterly direction to its final rest position.
Nicholas Cohen was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained during this crash.”
As we reported Wednesday night, the Trauma Hawk helicopter was flown to the scene in an effort to assist Cohen who later died. No charges have been filed against the driver of the Alfa Romeo. There is no expectation that someone on a dirt bike would be driving east-west across a north-south road. The investigation, however, continues.
