A Palm Beach County man was struck and killed by a Tesla. An investigation is underway.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County man is dead after he was struck and killed by a Tesla Model T, according to investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at the intersection of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road and Town Center Parkway North in Westlake around 7:49 a.m. Saturday.

PBSO tells BocaNewsNow.com that Derek Machin, 18, was riding a Kawasaki Ninja northbound on Seminole Pratt Whitney Road in the outside lane, approaching Town Center Parkway at a high rate of speed. At the same time, the driver of a Tesla Model T was traveling southbound on Seminole Pratt Whitney Road in the left turn lane for Town Center Parkway North.

According to investigators, the Tesla began to make a left turn into the path of the Kawasaki Ninja.

The front of the Ninja impacted the passenger’s side front fender of the Tesla. As the crash ensued, the Tesla rotated counterclockwise and came to an uncontrolled final rest within the outside northbound lane of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road.

Derek Machin of the 11300 block of 69th Place North in West Palm Beach was pronounced dead. No charges have been filed against the driver of the Tesla. The investigation continues.
