PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A train on the Brightline tracks struck the driver side of a vehicle in Lantana late this afternoon. Incredibly, the driver of the vehicle — the only person in the vehicle — survived. He was flown by Trauma Hawk to Delray Medical Center.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue tells BocaNewsNow.com that first responders had the man extricated from his vehicle within just a few minutes, an incredible fete considering the impact and damage. Firefighters and police from several agencies were on the scene as traffic backed up throughout the area. The crash location: 29 Hypoluxo Road which is Hypoluxo and Dixie Highway.
Train traffic was stopped as the incident was investigated. We understand Brightline has canceled or delayed several trains servicing the West Palm to Miami corridor this evening. Check GoBrightline.com for the latest on schedules.
It was not immediately clear why the man was driving his vehicle on the train tracks as a huge, loud train approached. It is also unclear if it was a Brightline or freight train on the FEC tracks. Brightline uses FEC tracks for its passenger rail service.
