BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida Atlantic University Tuesday will test its emergency alert system. Anyone in the area may hear sirens. Here’s the official announcement that FAU shared with BocaNewsNow.com:
Florida Atlantic University will test its Emergency Alert System on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Florida Atlantic Alert System is designed to play a key role in keeping students, faculty, staff and campus visitors safe during emergency situations.
The test will take place at approximately 2 p.m., during which outdoor warning sirens at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, as well as at the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter and at FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce, will be activated with a loud siren sound. A spoken message may also be heard across the campuses, as well as in nearby neighborhoods and business areas.
Additionally, FAU’s university-wide email, telephone alert, emergency hotline, web alert, social media, digital signage and text messaging will be tested – though only select individuals will receive the phone, email and text message. Users of the FAU Owl Ready app also will receive alerts.
